Kellysmith.com is getting a facelift…
I’m in the process of redesigning the entire site. This design has been with me for a while and it has that “not so fresh” feeling. The design for all the pages is done…now I’m going to take a few evenings and finish up the wordpress template and the integrated flickr stuff. The new look is much, much cleaner. Hopefully I’ll be done by Friday.
This is not a unique story…
Lot’s of people who started companies in the tech space could tell this story. It does go to show that timing is everything. Here’s a post from today about VideoJug.
When we first profiled UK-based DIY/How-to video site Videojug late last year we concluded that this was a smart position for online video. They throw up some professionally made how-to videos, and encourage user created videos. But we have to say we are surprised that the company has been able to raise $30M for a minority position. Videojug’s valuation is now around $70M!
…and here’s a post from 2000 about something I tried here in Seattle.
A five-year veteran of RealNetworks who helped establish the streaming media company’s European operation, has raised $2 million in angel financing for a new Seattle start-up that plans to syndicate instructional and how-to videos over the Internet.
Kelly Smith, former senior marketing manager at RealNetworks, founded RocketVox three months ago. The 10-person company plans to deliver specialized digital video programming - such as gardening shows and travel documentaries - to leading Web sites beginning this fall. RocketVox has signed deals with unnamed video production companies and partnered with Seattle digital encoding firm Loudeye Technologies.
This recycling of dot com concepts seems pretty prevalent these days. Anyone remember Quokka Sports? Now wait for a new broadband sports channel to emerge.
Fantastic Audi R8 site for geeks and car lovers alike

Why get a real watch?
Or even a fake expensive watch when you can have a real fake watch instead?
