I admit that Lazy Boys aren’t my thing. The problem is that it can be so hard to find that piece of furniture that you really get excited about. I’m amazed how many people haven’t yet stumbled into Henry Built down on Western in Seattle because I think it’s one of the most innovative and original furniture manufacturers in the city. Now they have a store in New York! We only have a few small pieces from these guys because it can get costly but its all solid wood and oh so cool.

I’ve been a big fan of Brian Storm’s work over at Media Storm for a few years. I think this is just incredible journalism. THe photo and video essays are some of the best on the net - in my opinion. There’s nobody else here to tend to the blog so that’s the only opinion available I’m afraid. So, take a chance and go spend some time on MediaStorm. In particular I’d actually recommend starting with the video called “Evidence of My Existence.” Well worth your time…

Ok I hate the interface. But then I hate the facebook interface too. But I’ll tell you…it is REALLY fun to browse the network within aSmallWorld.net It’s a bit like the “Access Hollywood” of business and media industries. So this is where the hedge fund crowd hangs out…

Sitting here watching Chris Matthews promote his new book on The Big Idea on CNBC. It’s a review of what business people can learn from great politicians.
A few quotes and thoughts I love.
“People love an underdog. Attack the number one. The best thing Hyundai can do is to be seen in the same sentence with Mercedes.”
“Attack from a defensive position. It’s more endearing to people than attacking from a mountain top.”
If someone forced me to summarize great business tactics with only one word? Loyalty.
Want something? Spend most discussion time considering the other guy’s perspective. What is their purpose? What is their agenda?
“If you’re flying on a cross country trip in Seat 1a…what kind of person do you want sitting in Seat 1b?” Positive people. Optimistic people. People who invigorate you.

So Nokia bought Navteq today. Garmin falls 10%. Some of you may remember that I recommended Garmin as a GPS stock buy back in May. It would have been trading around 55 then so you would have doubled your money since it is at 107 today even with the 11% drop on the Nokia news. GRMN has pushed the stock up a robust 145% in the past 52 weeks, continuing the run that made Garmin a small-cap darling, sending its shares up 440% over the last three years.
So, does this purchase of Navteq make Nokia the new GPS powerhouse? Is GRMN a sell? Is this 11% drop an omen?
Heh…don’t believe it. This is the kind of news that bargain buyers LOVE to see. I’m going to watch Garmin tomorrow. I hope it drops even more. I’ll be buying. Garmin has a market value of 23 billion. Navteq is at 7.5 billion. Garmin isn’t going anywhere. If someone comes out to buy Garmin what do you think it will sell for? When mobile phone companies started putting cameras in cell phones did you see Canon or Nikon implode? No.
In 5 years at least 25% of cars will have GPS installed. Garmin is a buy. A big buy.
